Besides the project in Ngeruka, a new project will start in Gakenke in Rwanda. Even though the regions are only a few kilometres apart, they have very different features. Ngeruka faces drought, while Gakenke is a fertile and moist mountainous area, where people grow a unbelievable array of crops. Food is not a problem here. However, the village Ruri is very remote. A small dirt road leads from the capital city Kigali 40 km through the moutains to Ruri. Only few vehicles ply this route, making it difficult for inhabitants of Ruri to transport their produce to the market in Kigali. They are dependining on others for transport of their corps, what is reflected in the revenues. The people in Ruri want, besides a better road, to be able to transport their own products to the market. They have applied for bicycles on micro credit. Click on the video for more information, and support this project. If the fund raising goes well, the first bicycles can already be handed over in November 2009.

The community of Gakenke in Rwanda suffers from a transport problem (see video below). They have requested for bicycles on micro credit from our local partner organisation. After a training session on bicycles repair and maintenance, and another training session on credit and saving, the beneficiaries have now received their new bicycles. The give out ceremony was attended by 5 representative of local authorities. The group of beneficiaries has set up their own group and is registered with the authorities. They also have a bank account to which they make the payments monthly. After this group has paid off the bicycle, new beneficiaries within the group can acquire a bicycle too. The funds raised for this project are doubled by Impulis.
